Antananarivo, January 2022 - iAko Randrianarivelo

After a tropical disturbance, as Madagascar was just emerging from the post-COVID-19 period, the country still bore the scars of severe damage, leaving a landscape marked by tension and hardship.

Together with Henitsoa Rafalia, a photojournalist and member of Mira Photo, we chose to document its aftermath. We traveled through some of the hardest-hit areas, including Andranomahery, the Hydrocarbons Road, and the 3G Hangar in the low-lying districts.

Throughout the day, we witnessed many situations of vulnerability among the residents, revealing the fragility of daily life in these disaster-stricken communities.
This series of images retraces the events of January 23, 2022, at the heart of this post-disaster reality.
